Hotels with Swim-up Rooms in Matera

The hotel itself is beautiful, and in a beautiful part of Matera. But it needs some improvements...the room was very hot while the plunge pool was cold. There were ants. The faucets didn't work particularly well. There was only one open-faced rubbish bin, and no coffee-making facilities. BUT the location is fantastic, the staff were friendly, and Matera itself is well worth a visit!

Staying in a cave setting with the private pool was magical!! Room was comfortable and stunning, and the complementary drinks were appreciated. The in-room pool was one of my favorite parts of the trip. On top of that, the staff were ABOVE AND BEYOND INCREDIBLE. Not only was the food (breakfast and dinner) amazing and the service excellent, but when the photographer my boyfriend hired for my (secret) proposal canceled last minute due to car trouble, they asked one of their contacts to come in and help him out, leading to absolutely stunning photos and the most amazing experience of us getting engaged. I am blown away by the location of the hotel, the amenities and room, but most of all, the care and dedication of the staff at every interaction. We will definitely be back. <3

Where to start, our stay at Palazzo Del Duca was amazing. Firstly, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and made our stay enjoyable. The location of the hotel couldn't be better with amazing views of Matera on your doorstep. We were lucky to get upgraded to the room with the pool, which was a fantastic treat. We had both breakfast and dinner in the hotel, and both were delicious. For those with a car, they work with a local carpark who will take your car, keep it safe, and drop you off at the hotel. It was such a smooth process. We really loved our stay.

This property is just AMAZING! It is set in the old town, part of the Sasi. The hotel is in what was a Palace back in the 1700’s. The room we stayed in was literally a cave that had been updated and converted to a hotel room. The pictures on their site do a wonderful job showing what the rooms are like. The restaurant was excellent. Service, food, and variety. The breakfast spread was very complete and offers eggs and omelette as well which we did not find in other hotels in Apulgia. But the best part of the stay was the staff. The were so helpful. They arranged for parking outside of the old town and for the shuttle from the parking to the hotel. They also had the staff porter the bags to the hotel from the shuttle. They had many suggestions of where to go what to do and were helpful in just so many ways. Highly recommend staying there and spend a few days in Matera. The history there is very unique and interesting and the hiking and scenery are pretty darn special

Thanks to you, the three days and two nights in Matera were very pleasant, with the best view from the door of the room, and my favorite Fanta and natural water in the refrigerator. Even if we booked only one of the cheapest standard double rooms, the view was very good, we wanted to upgrade to a larger room type for the second night, but it was booked out. The sheets and bath towels were the cleanest I had been on a 10-day trip. We took a lot of good photos, the staff were warm and friendly and made us feel relaxed, the dinner was delicious, suitable for Chinese tastes, the breakfast was rich and exquisite, there were many kinds to choose from, the cave hotel and cave restaurant were very special experiences, it would be a pity to miss! I will introduce this place to our Chinese friends. I wish you all the best

Wow! What a fabulous unusual property, within the Caveoso District at Matera. Walking distance to everything. Wonderful space with a hot tub, comfortable, clean and our host was lovely and helpful. Definitely recommend for an authentic cave dwelling experience.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and what a stunning treat for us both it was! The staff throughout our stay were very friendly. On arrival we were told our room would be another 40 minutes until it was ready and so we were offered a drink on the hotel terrace. What a wonderful and stunning introduction to Matera. We walked through a short tunnel to be greeted by a spectacular view of the Sassi. We had no issue with how long our room would be ready as we sat and enjoyed a drink and took in the views. Breakfast could be taken on the terrace each morning as well as enjoying an evening drink there, watching the colours across Matera change as dusk fell. Our room was gorgeous and unlike some other cave hotels we had no issues with damp as the hotel has a built in system that draws the dampness from the room daily. We had a lovely patio area for our room. While passers by could look in and see you sat enjoying a drink, it was usually with a look of envy. The hotel is within minutes walking distance of the old town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. If we returned we’d definitely stay here again.

Pour cette raison, l’hôtel nous contacte à l’avance en vue de nous proposer des parkings, payant dans des zones à proximité. Bien que l’hôtel ne soit pas construit dans un sasso, il offre un merveilleux panorama face à Matera. Le réceptionniste nous accueille chaleureusement, nous montre la chambre, puis nous explique à nouveau la situation des parkings dans la zone de l’hôtel et finalement nous proposer un agréable parcours autour des sassi de Matera. Il nous donne également de précieux conseils par rapport aux restaurants de la ville, que nous avons pu vérifier et apprécier. La chambre est magnifique, fait environ 23 m². Elle allie le charme ancien au mobilier moderne. La salle de bain est grande et très fonctionnelle. La douche italienne immense a été conçue dans la roche, comme une petite grotte. Le petit déjeuner est de très grande qualité et est servi sur une terrasse donnant une vue magnifique sur les Sassi et le dôme. En résumé, cet hôtel mérite 4 étoiles.

The hotel Il Belvedere is located in a scenic area which allows you the opportunity to enjoy the Sassi. We were warmly greeted at reception and the staff took us to our room and explained in great detail the ancient cave dwelling where we were staying. The gentleman was very kind and spoke slowly in Italian (I am not quite fluent in Italian) so that I was able to understand him. However, he would have gladly switched to English if I asked. The room was comfortable and well equipped and the TV offered many options. Pay secure parking was very convenient and located just 3 minutes away by foot. It was an easy 5-10 minute walk to reach the restaurants and shops of the ancient Sassi. Lots of quality restaurants nearby to enjoy the local cuisine. Matera is a uniquely beautiful ancient city. Unfortunately, the weather was very unusual for October (cold, rainy, windy) and we were unable to dine outdoors or sit at the hotel patio and enjoy a glass of wine while viewing the incredible scenery. However, we will be back and stay at least a couple of nights.

We had a fabulous 2 night stay here in April. Junior Suite 47 is a phenomenal room- spacious, quirky (you're in a cave), and very well equipped. The shower was so big!! A comfortable bed. The complimentary bottle of wine and minibar was a very generous touch!!! The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet had a good choice of options; pastries, cereal, fresh bed, fresh fruit, juices, yoghurt, cold cuts & cheese - there was a lovely breakfast foccacia too. What a breathtaking view over the ravine from the hotel terrace and right outside your bedroom door!! Only a short walk to the restaurants, bars, rock churches (as it sounds.....churches carved into the rock). It's lovely to see the lights of the old town go on from the hotel terrace (as the picture shows). We loved this hotel as the perfect base from where you can explore the town of Matera. It is worth staying overnight in the old town so you can enjoy the ambience after the day tour groups have left. We will definitely be back to this hotel.

A Perfect Stay in Matera The hotel is perfectly situated right at the start of the tourist route that circles the city, with a parking garage just 100 meters away—making it ideal for exploring the Sassi. The room we stayed in was absolutely beautiful and incredibly spacious. It remained pleasantly cool even in 30+ degree weather—we didn’t even need to use the air conditioning. All of the staff were courteous, helpful, and genuinely friendly. The view of the Sassi from the terrace is likely one of the best in all of Matera. One of our favorite evenings was simply sitting out on the terrace with a glass of wine and some snacks, soaking in the stunning view after a long, hot day of exploring. Breakfast was very nice—simple but typical of many Italian hotels. The staff were happy to make a delicious coffee of your choice. If we ever return to this amazing city, we will definitely stay here again.

Splendid new hotel built into old caves. Great location, friendly staff. Parking, while expensive, could not be better. One goes to a garage in the new part of the city, and immediately taken in a beautiful van directly to the hotel. Prohibited to use a car in town. Room was extremely comfortable (bed, temperature control) but with some caveats: marble everywhere with multiple steps up to bathroom, and it gets slippery when wet. Huge cave closet room to hang clothes, but it is open to the rest of the room, so you are always looking at your stuff. Great shower with a variety of sprays. One feature now common in “hip” hotels, which old guy like me will never understand, is a clear glass panel between shower and den area of room. So, not only can you see your partner in the shower, but sitting on the throne as well; that’s just crazy. I don’t understand why architect of this brand new hotel would specify old style skeleton key locks; what a pain in the ass. You need to turn key multiple times to lock and unlock, both outside and inside the room. You don’t get two keys so more inconvenience. Just issue card “keys” and make life easier for everyone. Breakfast was very good and greatly appreciate that we were offered the opportunity to order omelets and the like. I so appreciated ordering a Coke Zero at breakfast without any additional charge, unlike many hotels. Also, two free bottled water in the room fridge per night. Nice touch.

Well, it started off on the wrong footing, a mix up on the room type and single bed vs double bed. But this was quickly resolved via a gentleman called Rocco. Once i got settled in my wonderful cave dwelling with wonderful waterfall shower, i was right at home. The staff at this resort were all smiles and extremely helpful and accommodating. I couldn't fault any of them. I will single out Domenico and Bea and the head of housekeeping Asia as highlights of my comfortable stay. Asia's work along with her team in keeping your room fresh and tidy made my stay an absolute pleasure. All staff have beautiful welcoming smiles and were always happy to help. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation. The breakfast was top notch and very varied with beautiful fresh fruit and home baked cakes and eggs how you like them on request and freshly squeezed organge juice. I would love to stay again.

Brand-new hotel just opened in August. It incorporates the atmosphere of a cave dwelling, a traditional Matera feature, but the room is very sophisticated and equipped with the latest control technology. Everything from the tasteful decor to the wonderful staff (helpful and friendly, yet professional), cozy room, soft and snugllable towels, sophisticated facilities, and excellent breakfast was superb. The location is right in front of the Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, where buses and cabs enter, so you don't need to climb up and down the stairs lugging heavy luggage around. Erica, the Room Division Manager, spoke excellent English and was very attentive to my needs, including sightseeing and arrangement of taxi. If you ever come to Matera, definitely book this hotel. Highly recommended.

On this vacation we tried to stay in farm houses, artist hotels and architectural hotels. This was our architectural hotel... WOW. We booked a suite in a cave room. Even though it is a cave it was open and light with lots of space. It had aroma therapy in the double shower. The location is FANTASTIC. The people who work here are wonderful, even gave us hugs when we left. We paid the extra money to have them arrange parking. It was 38$ a day. But your car is in a safe location and a van brought us to the historic section and helped with luggage. The walk even with carry-ons would have not been fun. Do the car service. Nearby is everything.

The room furnishing is up to a very high standard. Comfortable bed and beddings. It is also very dark in the room if you have the windows closed, we slept so well! Within the room is sound proof, not the case for the bathroom as I could hear everything the toddler said next door 😂 but it’s just the bathroom. The cot they prepared for our baby is lovely too! Location is amazing, very easy to get to the main streets of the sassi on foot. Lots of restaurants nearby. It also has a wonderful view. Most of the staff are very friendly and sweet, one even gave us a hug when we left ❤️ Would definitely recommend this place for a stay in Matera!

Because of a mistake in booking, we were given their new suite which wasn’t online yet. It was fabulous with a pool and sauna right in the room (though not yet available for use). The staff, especially Giuseppe, were so helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.

Matera… what a place!! It’s a wow on every corner and Corte San Pietro was the same. Our superior room was one of the original cave dwellings, updated for a comfortable stay. The only windows were in the door to the room, which opened straight onto the street, but we didn’t mind that at all. Not having a door on the bathroom (just a curtain) was a surprise… but only added to the uniqueness of the stay. Breakfast was delicious and served to live piano music in a room above the hotel’s old underground cisterns (which made an interesting post-breakfast visit). All the staff were superb, really trying their best to meet every guest’s needs. Sadly they missed our (2) requests for a missing bath towel to be replaced but no one can be perfect. Finally the hotel’s recommended parking was perfect. Easy to find well sized and secured and a l transfer service can be arranged by the hotel. Just remember that this is all additional cost though.. €20 per night for the parking and €30 return for the transfer. Overall we highly recommend a visit to Matera and staying in Corte San Pietro.

Wonderful experience sleeping in a cave- Room was spacious as it had a separate sitting area-- hotel is extremely convenient to the cave portion of Matera and Matera is a must see if you are anywhere near the area. Close to a number of good restaurants-- excellent breakfast. Bed was a little soft and the bathrooms are small ( understandable given it is a cave) . Lovely open courtyard to relax in the afternoon with some snacks and wine that you can order from the hotel. Mini fridges in room. Only negative was the challenge with parking at the specified garage and relying on the third party shuttle service to the hotel, 3 separate groups arrived around the same time so was a long wait and the shuttle service was running behind the day we left so give yourself ample time -- parking is an issue in town and I would not let the parking/shuttle deter from staying in this lovely setting. Matera was on of our highlights in the Puglia region

Corte San Pietro is the most beautiful place to stay. The staff is like family, very friendly and welcoming with everyone. Even the owners are around to welcome you. The rooms are fabulous! I was lucky enough to stay in room 7 and it was located just up from the reception and the bed was a climb of steps up, but I slept so well. The breakfast is the best I’ve seen following 3 weeks in Italy. I was greeted by the most lovely woman with all kinds of fruits, cakes, toasts with tomatoes, water, orange juice and she got me cappuccino anytime I asked. Oh and did I mention the piano player? It was in a sassi and I only missed my boyfriend, as I was solo traveling here. Centrally located and I found some great spots close by for cocktails and dinner. I’ll definitely return one day with someone special. And there is a fabulous spa advertising in the room!! OMG- just do it.

This is simply a fabulous hotel in the perfect spot within the UNESCO site of the Sassi of Matera. The rooms are literally carved out of the sandstone in the center of the Caveoso portion of the sight. Close to everything and appropriately inaccessible to normal traffic. Anna at the front desk was fabulous...setup tours for us, made great restaurant recommendations and took care of anything we asked. The breakfast was spectacular with live soft music, fabulous offerings and a cozy cave room in the midst of seven cisterns! I know that just sounds like poppycock....but it is exactly the way it is! Breakfast ladies were so accommodating but in a sincerely friendly and helpful way and Miller (sp) that took care of all the luggage and anything else that seniors might need help with...and always with a smile! Cant imagine staying anywhere else in Matera and cant imagine not seeing this very historic town! Just Book it....you will be happy!

Everything starting from the location, the staff and the pool

During our recent extensive travels, we have stayed in some lovely accommodation, but we all agreed this hotel went straight to the top of the list. From the clear and helpful advance advice about parking (and the recommended shuttle to the hotel from the safe parking area), to the warm and Informative welcome from the wonderful Cristina, to the incredible rooms and mind blowing-view, this hotel could not be any better. We occupied one cave ‘deluxe junior suite’ (with the most incredible bathroom), and a beautiful deluxe suite next to reception. They were both different and both exceptional, with extremely comfortable beds, great air conditioning, fantastic showers etc. We loved hearing from Cristina about the history of the rooms and the hotel, and the history of Matera. We enjoyed a drink on the Terrace before following Cristina’s recommendations for good dishes to eat in the Sassi for dinner. A comfortable sleep was followed by a truly delicious and varied breakfast. I can’t speak highly enough of this hotel; our genuine regret was that we stayed only one night. Will definitely be back!

It all started because of that guy named Jame Bond. My wife was captivated by the scenes of riding a motorcycle and cruising through the town, and in the end, suddenly I found myself in Matera with my wife. Maria (if I got the name wrong, I am sorry!! ) who introduced us to the accommodation and the entire Matera area is a perfect 11 out of 10! We had a delightful time exploring the Matera area in the evening. Now, this is a story that only applies to Koreans (and I want to clarify that I'm referring to South Korea, not North Korea ). When we started craving Korean food, we heard about a restaurant called "Chimac" here, so we decided to visit. This experience was also very refreshing. If anyone is curious about Korean food, be sure to visit this place.

The most amazing and unique experience staying in a cave suite that has so much history behind it. Our suite had the glass floor underneath our bed which showed some of the old original furnace. Incredible. All the amenities were exceptional and the staff amazing . Probably one of the best included breakfast and not to mention the bistro attached to suites with a terrace with the most magical views. It was also a fairly close walk to the main piazza areas. We just loved going for our daily “passeggiata”. Every day we discovered new things about Matera . The locals were amazing and friendly and also happy to talk and give recommendations about where to eat and what to do.. We will most definitely return to Matera and most definitely stay at Palazzo Degli Abati and request the same room. Loved it!!

My fiancé and i had an incredible experience at this property - we wished we had stayed longer than just one night! We were welcomed with welcome drinks up on the rooftop overlooking the beautiful Sassi di Matera. The staff was so friendly and helpful with recommendations as needed. The room we stayed in was a cave room - so cool and updated with AC and everything! Our room was near the reception which initially had us nervous but it was actually very quiet. We loved the walkability and the convenience! The parking situation - which could have been difficult with the rules of cars in Matera - was made very simple with scheduled departures and felt very safe. Overall, we had a great experience and only complaint is that we wish we stayed longer! Thank you to the kind staff here as well.

Well where to start? From start to finish we were blown away. The hotel is in Matera which gets it off to an excellent start - the whole place is jaw dropping. But this hotel is next level. In the sweltering heat our bags were carried up efficiently and they looked after them as we arrived very early well before check in - no bother 'of course we will look after the bags, not a problem'. When we checked in later the staff were so very charming and sweet. We received maps of the area and the ideal walk to take and we had a chilled lemon water in the (amazing) breakfast room whilst the history of the area and the conservation project was explained. I am not one for too much info but this was genuinely fascinating and just left me wanting more. And then we were off to our room. I just cannot put into words how wonderful the room was. The whole place is steeped in history - you feel it everywhere you go. But despite being in a cave and imagining quite vividly the squalor that has gone before - the luxury is immense. The bed! It's enormous and so very comfy - I had the best nights sleep. The bath, the candles - the charm of it all. I was in heaven. Opening the doors to the outside world the view is off the scale. And as for breakfast - I almost don't want to ruin the surprise. It is fabulous, I could have grazed there all day. I have wanted to stay in this hotel for years and finally I have achieved it. It exceeded all my expectations. I can only hope I will be back.

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful hotel for two nights in early July. Firstly, it’s really hard to actually find despite having a sat nav. You have to really keep your eyes peeled for the hotel sign. On a good note the hotel will send you directions and pictures before you arrive, be sure to print these off and take them with you as they do help. Upon arrival we were greeted by lovely and friendly staff who gave us a tour of the hotel and explained the history of the caves and that they have tried to keep everything within the hotel original. This includes lifting up the original floor stones, numbering them, installing under floor heating and putting the floor stones back in place. Most furniture is original and recycled also. There are nine cave rooms in total and all I can say is wow. Our room had a bath and a shower, a very comfortable double bed, free water and fruit and was draped in wonderful candle light. The room although dark as it only had one small window (as you would expect being a cave) was amazing and fully equipped with everything you need such as wifi. However, do not expect a TV or full length mirror. Believe it or not you will be so blown away with the beauty of this cave you won’t miss these things. Everywhere you look in this hotel there are signs of the past and a uniqueness that you can’t help falling in love with. I dare you not to lay in bed and look around you in awe. The breakfast buffet was also very good.

This excellent hotel, the environment, view, food and staff member, Pasquale, made this hotel clearly the best on our two and a half weeks in Italy. Matera is an unusual and exceptional location, replete with incredible churches, ancient history, and a more recent historic past- and this hotel, built into one of its notorious caves, was beautifully appointed. Literie was amazing, comfortable, and luxurious. Welcomed with lovely bottle of wine, fresh fruits. View from the bed to the open canyon with post card beauty made us not want to leave the room. AC was OK but probably needs a boost considering the unrelenting heat. The breakfast-in all travels in US, Europe and Central/S American, have never enjoyed such a sumptuous banquet-tables overflowing with fresh fruits, freshly squeezed juices, home-baked goods, meats and cheese and anything else you wanted after. Unreal and we don't even EAT breakfast!!! Could not resist!! Lovely cocktail hour overlooking the canyon as well. Just a spectacular experience all around. And-Pasquale-equally exceptional-years of experience in hospitality and he made the visit SPECIAL...arranged a meal at one of the best restaurants we enjoyed in Italy and located and purchased a festive table cloth from a local restaurant just for me and mailed it to me at my convenience. Will cherish forever and think of him and this magnificent place when we use it. Matera and this hotel truly a must on a visit to Italy.

Spectacular, one of a kind luxury hotel experience. The Sextantio successfully walks the fine line between a luxury, boutique hotel and a historical and social statement about the legacy of the Sassi caves and the people who lived in them. The rooms themselves, each located in their own cave, are beautiful, unique and romantic. Lit by candle and small amounts of recessed lighting, they are heavily atmospheric but very dark. The floors are paved with hard, uneven stone, and the bathrooms do not provide much in the way of privacy. In other words, staying here requires a brief suspension of the types of amenities usually found in a luxury hotel. Living, even briefly, in rooms much darker than we are normally used to, requires adapting to even simple tasks like unpacking or getting ready in the morning. The uneven floors require care even when just walking from one side of the room to the other. We spent much of the time when in the room with the front doors open to let in the sunlight, just as the original inhabitants of the sassi did everyday. But for a beautiful, immersive experience, this is a great place to stay. The staff is very good, and the parking system- leaving your car in a garage out of town and being shuttled in with your luggage, was very efficient. The breakfast (of course served in a cave) was impressive. All in all, a totally unique place to stay.

We stayed here for one night on our honeymoon in one of the cave rooms. It was an amazing experience I am so glad I stumbled across this place in the Michelin guide. The cave room was super cool. It captures the feeling of living in a cave but with 5 star luxuries like a bathtub and bidet, and king size bed. The hotel also gave us a free bottle of wine with fruit for our honeymoon which was a nice courtesy. Location is perfect, when you walk out you have a little terrace with a view of the valley, and then up a few flights of stairs brings you to the duomo. Service was excellent from start to finish, every staff member was super accommodating and polite, they helped us with our bags and gave us directions around the town. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast. They give you a full hour to attend and we showed up 20 minutes late thanks to my wife, I was not happy about that. Make sure you get there on time for the full hour! It’s the best breakfast we ever had and I’m comparing it to 5 star resorts I’ve stayed in the carribean and Thailand. Everything is fresh farm to table, with homemade baked goods made fresh that morning. The charcuterie selection was amazing, the jam was amazing (we bought some after) and the ricotta pie was the best!

I wanted to stay in a cave hotel and wanted to use a cave pool. This hotel had both, and really integrated the rustic/traditional surroundings with a very high-end spa-like experience. The restaurant was quiet and cozy for dinner and the food was excellent, if pricy. The breakfast was lovely with lots of choices, both continental and American breakfast options. The front desk staff was helpful upon arrival, and made a spa reservation for me. The SPA is the best part. The grotto-like pool, the various jets and waterfall options. Very relaxing. The saunas were both clean and comfortable. The location was not particularly convenient with a car, but the hotel was very up-front about the car-restricted zone AND the best place to park to get to the hotel. They also had a shuttle if requested. I hope to stay here again some day.

Our stay was good the front desk staff friendly and very smart. The spa lacked even though we had to book our own time slot, there were 6 other people in the pools at the same time as us, they all had camera and phones, loud, not addressed by staff not a great pool experience and the spa was one of main reasons we chose that hotel

The pictures do not do this hotel justice. We spent our honeymoon there. From arrival to departure the staff were very profesional and engaging. The reception staff were quick to provide information regarding Matera atractions, and even arranged a taxi for us when we missed the last bus before the afternoon shut down and were stranded outside the city. The waiting staff were friendly and engaging from the start. No request was too much. The spa was very good (they are not normaly my idea of fun) with the pool in a cave fun and relaxing - althoughI did find the polished stone floor a little slippy. The room was comfortable and cool. The shower was strong, the bed comfortable. There could have been more space for clothes, but I suspect the hotel is not geared for long stays. If I was to nit pick, the lack of a coffee machine in a bedroom in 5 star hotel was a surprise. Suffice to say we are planning another visit!

Amazing hotel using natural caves and outer construction in combination to create a unique and luxurious place to stay in the heart of Matera. Our room was part cave part built and totally luxurious. Open plan with dividing walls for the bathroom and a private access directly outside. Restaurants and bars are a few steps away but we were not disturbed at night. All of the staff were lovely and really helpful. Breakfast was the best we had during our holiday in the Puglian region and the little bar perfect for a start to the evening. The spa must be experienced- you need to book a slot but make sure you do as the underground cave pool is amazing and the steam room being even deeper under the hotel gives it atmosphere. Matera is a two night place I think and a stay the this hotel makes the whole Matera experience super special!

Staying at Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & Spa was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome, ensuring every detail of our stay was perfect. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, & perfect blend of modern luxury with the charm of Matera’s ancient cave dwellings. Every corner of the hotel exudes elegance while preserving the rich history of the area. One of the absolute highlights was the heated Blue Spa pool—hands down the best and cleanest spa experience we’ve ever had! The warm, crystal-clear water, the peaceful ambiance, and the relaxing atmosphere made it the perfect retreat after a day of exploring Matera. Can’t wait to be back!

The Hotel (sometimes called Residenza) San Giorgio is one of many hotels set into the rocks or sassi of Matera. Its office is on a lower level and you climb (there is very little that is horizontal in Matera) a somewhat steep cobble stone stairway to get to your suite. Our suite was like a one bedroom apartment. It had a kitchen, bathroom, living room, loft bedroom and a couple of corners perfectly engineered into the rock. Oh...did I forget to mention?...It also have a centuries old Cistertian Church in the floor below to which we had access. The church was so large, a real labyrinth, that we did not venture to its full extent for fear of getting lost. Parking was a bit of an issue. Set you GPS to the office or to the neighboring restaurant, La Talpa, and they will park your car for you. (They'll get if for you too. This service cost 35 euros for two days.) Given Matera, if you are reading this in English, you really don't want to be driving in the sassi. Breakfast is self-serve and the hotel will provide you with some basics like cereal, toasts, crackers, fruits, instant coffee, etc. To get to the Piazza Sedile, a main square that connects to most historical buildings, you climb up the stairs following the Itinerari turistico signs. There's a restaurant before the Piazza called the Cola Cola that has an excellent dinner menu that is translated into English and does not change. For 15 euro you get to drink good local wine and have a very finely prepared dinner.

Matera is a truly mesmerizing place, and our experience there was absolutely incredible. From the moment we arrived, Alessandra went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. She assisted us in finding a taxi from the train station and warmly welcomed us with a detailed map of the city, highlighting all the must-see places, tourist routes, and providing us with valuable information. Not only was Alessandra exceptional, but the entire staff was also helpful and friendly throughout our entire stay. They were always available to answer our questions, offer suggestions, and provide any assistance we needed. Their genuine hospitality truly enhanced our experience. The room we stayed in was conveniently accessible and the staff kindly helped us with our luggage right up to the door. The room itself was comfortable, clean, and well-maintained, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. We found in our room the breakfast for the next day and it included a wide variety of options to suit everyone's tastes. From the moment we set foot in Matera, it was love at first sight. The city's unique charm, rich history, and stunning architecture captivated us. And when we return, without a doubt, we will choose the same place to stay. The experience was nothing short of exceptional, and we highly recommend this location to anyone seeking a truly unforgettable stay in Matera.

Das Hotel besteht aus mehreren verteilten Zimmern direkt in den Sassi - eine richtig authentische Unterkunft für Matera und eine lohnenswerte Erfahrung! Der Zugang zu den einzelnen Suiten erfolgt über Treppen und Wegen durch die Sassi - leichtes Gepäck ist daher sehr zu empfehlen. Wir wurden darüber im Vorfeld von den Gastgebern informiert und konnten so umpacken, dass wir nur einen leichten Koffer für die zwei Nächte mitnehmen mussten. Zum Parken erhielten wir ebenfalls eine kurze Information auf Anfrage an das Hotel - wir entschieden uns für eine Parkgarage (25 Euro pro Nacht), da wir unser gesamtes restliches Gepäck im Auto ließen, es gäbe aber auch eine günstigere Variante mit Shuttle. Das Frühstück wird im Hotel San Giorgio so gelöst, dass man in der kleinen Küche der Suite alles Nötige bereitgestellt hat - es wurde uns sogar erklärt, wie man Mokka mit der Mokkakanne kocht - zubereiten musste man das Frühstück dann selbst nach Lust und Laune. Großes Plus: zu jeder Suite gehört ein Tisch im Freien - so kann man da gemütlich den Kaffee trinken oder auch ein mitgebrachtes Essen verzehren. Alle Sehenswürdigkeiten sind in wenigen Minuten erreicht. Tolle Lage, tolles Personal, eine wirklich tolle Erfahrung mit besonderer Atmosphäre! Absolute Empfehlung von und!!!

Absolutely wonderful!! the apartment we stayed in was built above an ancient grain storage (wooden doors in the floor provided access to the storage - don’t worry, no longer active!). The ceiling in the entrance was about 6 or 7 metres high and the apartment opened on a quiet and private courtyard where we had a covered patio set with tables and chairs. Inside was a well equipped kitchen, interesting features such as a medieval era cold storage cut into the rock and a stairwell to a small room looking back into the apartment. The courtyard was at the entrance to excavations that exposed an old church under our building - interesting features indeed! Gianluca our host was very hospitable and engaging, and very informative about Matera. Our breakfast basket was refilled each of the three days we stayed with fresh fruit, bread, yogurt, local cured meat and cheese. Easy access to wander the Sassi area of this ancient city.

Oh my word: this place is amazing! We were traveling in Italy and decided to change our destination to Matera because it was the only place we could get to conveniently where it wasn't cold and rainy. We had no idea how beautiful the city would be, and how this hotel residence would just make the trip for us. It has a balcony with a table and two chairs--perfect for taking in the scenery with your sweetheart and having a meal or glass of coffee or wine. The bed was comfortable and there was even a kitchen. We decided to cook dinner and stay in because we wanted to sit on the balcony until dark. It's a restored building in the Sassi and it's absolutely beautiful. My only suggestion would be for the hosts to stock us with salt and pepper, since they thought of everything else. This is a place not to miss!

I honestly cannot recommend this place enough!!! The service was the best we had experienced in our 3 months in Italy. The staff were friendly, professional and quick to respond. I explained that we were there for my husband’s birthday and they went above and beyond to make our stay special. They helped with suggestions and reservations for dinner as well as tours. They were happy to help with any questions we had and you get a free map with suggested routes to see all the sights. You get much-needed cold water upon arrival. I requested a bottle of Prosecco in our room for my husband’s birthday and they happily obliged and provided a fanatic local bottle of Prosecco. We stayed in a private suit and the room was fantastic! It was spacious, with a huge bath and shower and seperate toilet. It had a TV, coffee station and air conditioning (which we didn’t need to use despite the extreme heat in Matera as the room is nice and cool as it is in a cave setting). The breakfast was fantastic and the view from the terrace is incredible! I also love that they have eco-friendly processed in place to minimise their footprint. We will definitely be back when in Matera!

Our experience at Fra i Sassi was absolutely unforgettable. Our room was beautiful and full of character — the bathroom was set directly in the cave, which gave it such a unique and authentic touch. One of the highlights was definitely the view: right from our window we had a breathtaking panorama of Matera, perfect at any time of day. The location couldn’t have been better. We had no issues at all with our luggage, and the direct shuttle to the hotel made arrival super easy. Once there, we were within walking distance of everything — it’s perfectly situated to explore the Sassi and the historic center. What really made the difference was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was incredibly kind and helpful. They gave us excellent recommendations for food and activities, helped with reservations, and made us feel completely at home. A big plus for us: we were traveling with our dog and everything went smoothly. And breakfast? Just as amazing as everything else — fresh, local, and delicious. Our stay was absolutely wonderful! We were able to easily communicate with the staff through Booking.com, and they were very attentive and accommodating. We had requested a cave room, and they kindly facilitated it, the view from our room was breathtaking, overlooking the stunning cave houses of the 'Sassi'. The room itself was comfortable and cozy, and the staff went above and beyond by helping us find the best authentic local cuisine to try. They also arranged taxi services to and from the main city center, which was incredibly convenient and helpful, especially given our tight schedule. The breakfast was amazing, featuring a variety of authentic savory and sweet options, we absolutely loved it! On our last day, we had a very early check-out, and the staff even arranged breakfast for us much earlier than their usual serving time, which we truly appreciated. The hotel’s location is perfect, with easy access to all the Caveoso and Barisano attractions. Overall, it was a flawless stay, we would highly recommend it!

Everything was good at Fra I Sassi Residence . The service was good from the beginning when they offered to arrange for a taxi to pick us up at the bus stop, which is at a bit of a distance. Nice to have a taxi waiting. Their recommendations for restaurants were also excellent. A shout out to the breakfast staff as well who were also kind and helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Our room was very attractive, spacious and bright . It was cavernous in a good way :) We had a little patio sitting area outside our room. The Residence was in a perfect location, it was right in the Barisano sassi district and convenient to walking routes through the historic areas and yet also on a street that the taxi could access ( with our luggage) . We couldn't have been happier with our choice.

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel while we visited Matera. It is located about 5-10minutes by car from Matera. The rooms were spacious and modern, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fresh and well tasty. With a pool this hotel would be absolutely perfect. Would definitely stay here again.

We especially liked the friendliness of the staff, everybody was ever so nice, they had a lot of useful information about the area, places to visit, restaurant recommendations etc. We had a very spacious suite wich came with a beautiful modern bathroom. During our last visit in Matera we stayed in a cave hotel where our room was humid and cold. We therefore opted for a comfortable hotel room with a well working central heating. Everything was impeccably clean. The breakfast had a very good choice of sweet and savoury items. We did not have the time to use the spa facilities, but maybe another time. The hotel has a parking just outside in the courtyard and two elevators for easy luggage transport. This would certainly be the hotel of our choice for a next visit to Matera.

Great hotel in Matera for those who don't mind driving everywhere. The hotel itself is excellent - the rooms are large and well-appointed, the breakfast is good, and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful (they provided very useful recommendations for both sightseeing and dining options). And there's ample parking on the property itself. For us, it was the perfect option. But it's important to note that the hotel stands on a busy road without sidewalks. So, even though it's within a 15-minute walk from many restaurants and within 30 minutes from the Sassi, it's highly inadvisable to go by foot and you should plan on driving. On the plus side, we had no trouble finding parking near any of our destinations in town.

The hotel is very modern and clean. It's easy to find and access if driving. The GPS co-ordinates take you exactly to the driveway. The lady at the reception was very welcoming and friendly and gave us lots of good information about the best restaurants, how to get into town etc. We took the taxi into the town centre at a fixed 10 euros if you used their driver. Less hassle than driving your own car. The breakfasts were great, beautiful cakes, tarts etc and the rest. I highly recommend this hotel. Could not fault it.

The location of H Basiliani is absolutely stunning, on the side of the gorge, in the middle of Matera's sassi area. There are cave dwellings (some renovated, some not) either side of the hotel buildings, and the breakfast terrace and some of the rooms (including ours) have panoramic views across the gorge at older caves on the other side. Our room was very large (split level, obviously meant for a family rather than just the two of us!), calm and comfortable. My only criticism is that the bathroom was about due for another coat of paint. Because the hotel is in the historic area, you cannot drive to it. You need to leave your car somewhere in the modern part of town (the hotel can advise on a choice of car-parks), and then call the hotel, who send their shuttle to collect you and your luggage. They also offered to shuttle us back to our car if we wanted to go out for the day, but there is enough in Matera (within walking/climbing distance) to keep you busy for a couple of days, so we didn't bother. I have read complaints about people waiting for the shuttle - this is only a small hotel, so there are only one or two vehicles - as long as you know there might be a wait, I don't see this as an issue. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and I can't think of a better location to stay in Matera! If this is your first visit to Matera, bring a satnav or a decent map. The street signs in the modern town are dreadful, and we spent nearly an hour driving round completely lost.

This hotel in my opinion is a hidden gem. We had the best 3 nights stay in this hotel.we loved the location and absolute dreamy views.There were plenty of restaurants etc within a short walking distance, but our location was not affected by the noise it was so quiet and relatively secluded. The free shuttle service which was super organised. our spotlessly clean cave bedroom was very big, freshly decorated, modern and equipped with hairdryer, kettle with coffee etc and tv and Wi Fi. Now the biggest selling point which I believe the hotel should shout about more was our bathroom. It was amazing, it had a Lage recessed cave bath, with a top of the range spa shower. The bath / spa shower was like a very large private cave hot tub which lit up in different glowing colours when you selected the controls. It felt very luxurious indeed. We enjoyed a nice glass of local wine while relaxing in it. In our own little spa. Breakfast was plentiful, tasty and of very good quality and we sat there on the balcony eating and enjoying the stunning views. The staff were very friendly and helpful.I would strongly recommend this hotel.we also booked an ape (tuk tuk) ride with a guide to see the local area sights without getting sore feet and it was amazing and highly recommended. If you like unique and an unforgettable experience, this is the place for you. I truly felt like I was in a movie. This isn't a "bells and whistles" place; this is stepping back in time and experiencing life sleeping in a very beautiful, immaculate and stylish cave. Basiliani is a cave hotel with all the amenities of modern day, yet entrenched in the history of a world where people actually lived in caves until the mid 1950s. What a true archeological treasure. Matera is beyond belief in its beauty and history. I was awe struck by its views, especially when lit up at night, and this hotel fit beautifully into the scenery. The beds were extremely comfortable, shower had great water pressure which I couldn't quite even understand how possible amongst the rocky landscape, and the air conditioner kept everything super comfortable. The included breakfast was delicious and had something for everyone, including vegetarians. Most of all, I have to say how lucky Basiliani Hotel is to have Roberto working with them. He is a true treasure, and one of the most kindest and caring people I have come across in a long time. Nothing was beyond him, and he genuinely wanted us to have the most enjoyable stay. I would go back in a heartbeat. What a wonderful place to stay. Highly recommend.

Well, where do we start. This hotel was fabulous, from the accommodation, staff / service and buffet breakfast. The rooms are quite unique, part carved into the stone in Matera where people lived in caves until the 1950's. The rooms have their own entry / exit and they boast plenty of space and comfort. They can organise parking for you locally and will even meet you at the parking area to help with bags and lead you to the hotel. The staff are excellent and very helpful. Special thanks to Onofrio, Roberto, Martina and Luchia for making our stay so very special. They were all so lovely to us as a family and particularly to our adult daughter who has learning disabilities. Buffet breakfast is simply superb. Loads of choice and both tasty and healthy with loads of fruit. Would we recommend this hotel.......yes, in a heartbeat. Well worth staying here as a base exploring Matera and surrounding areas. Matera is simply magical as a destination. Visit if you can. You will not be disappointed. It was even used as the backdrop to a Bond film. We will return - the area is so very different to other areas of Italy we have visited.

What an incredible place Sassi Di Matera is, and the Basiliani Hotel enriches the experience - our only regret is having just one night, I would recommend staying for two. Right from the start, communication from the hotel was friendly and efficient - they gave clear instructions on where to find a carpark in the new part of Matera, and picked us up from there (cars are limited in old Matera). The hotel is spread across various caves and has been restored skilfully and beautifully. The rooms have separate outdoor access. and have a modern stylish interior. Our room was huge, and the bathroom facilities were very cool including a separate glass shower at one end of the room! Breakfast was included in our reasonable room rate and it was plentiful and of a good quality. The hotel is located perfectly to wander and explore Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano – the atmosphere and sights are truly special, and it is definitely worth walking over to the gorge opposite. There are good restaurants near the hotel, we really enjoyed Dulcis In Fundo. I thoroughly recommend this place – don’t just do a day trip, stay and savour!

Very unique to be staying in an ancient cave dwelling. Modern appointments were very comfortable. The space was large and luxurious. I would not recommend getting a room here with a jacuzzi. The water made to room very humid. The tub water was not hot enough to enjoy. The circulation system was noisy and could not be turned off - it was on a timer. The tub and water smelled bad. Instead choose a room without a pool or a jacuzzi tub. Soaker tubs are much nicer.

Great place but difficult to find (see note at bottom if you want to avoid the 60 minutes it took me to find the place after arriving in the new town). One of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed at. Restored Palazzo next to the hill top Duomo in the Sassi with fantastic views over the old city and the canyons. Rooms were spacious, very tastefully decorated in keeping with the beauty of the building, and also up to date with thoughtful touches such as heated floors. Only minor ding with the hotel was breakfast, with no hot service, and where the service was a bit indifferent. But it was in a beautiful setting which helped compensate. To get to this fantastic location, you have to find the hotel. There is no signage anywhere except in front of the hotel. The ONLY way to get the hotel by car is to get to the piazza in front of the Sassi Duomo, and follow a narrow stone road 50 meters or so off the piazza, wherer the hotel will be on the left (Parking 20 Euro per day). GOOGLE MAPS DIRECTIONS ARE WRONG (as of December 2014)--you will not get to the hotel with its directions (and even if you correct for the fact it has you go the wrong way down a one way street it will leave you at the bottom of a hill maybe 200 steps and several turns below the hotel). Also beware digital and paper maps often don't distinguish clearly between pedestrian walkways with stairs from streets that can take cars.

We fell in love with the Palazzo Viceconte. The service & location were outstanding and our Junior Suite was spacious and elegant. The bathroom was very large and we even had a walk in closet. The view from our room was breathtaking of the Sassi and though we had a litle difficulty navigating to some of the restaurants suggested, we managed to do so and our dinners were lovely! We had only booked our room for two nights but asked to stay longer because we fell in love with the area and the Palazzo but unfortunately they were sold out. My husband had been unwell for a few days before arriving in Matera and after another day there, I asked the front desk to help make arrangements to see a local doctor. Within the hour, Mrs. Viceconte herself brought a doctor to our room. Since the doctor spoke no English and we spoke no Italian, she translated and soon we were on our way to the pharmacy with a prescription. When we checked out the next day, everyone inquired after my husband's health. They were like family after only a few days! We have been traveling for over five weeks now, mostly to new areas of Italy that we had not been - Matera was one of our absolute favorites and the Palazo Viceconte helped make it so!!

The Viceconte is a super elegant hotel very close to all of Matera's sights. It was easy to find once we programmed our GPS to walking mode, but would have been nearly impossible without that. Our room was sophisticated and stocked with 2 free water bottles, but it was very dim (our main floor room overlooked the courtyard and so did not have views). Another potential disadvantage for some people (not us) were the stone steps leading up to the bed on both sides. In the night, with the dark room, this could be a drawback for some people. The breakfast was fabulous and I fell in love with the strazzate cookies, which were the best (and for which I am having a hard time finding a recipe!). We loved walking to the breakfast room because that is how this place really felt like a palace to us. Very lovely place!

Palazzo Viceconte is one of the laxurist and attractive hotel in Matera. They are next to Matera Duomo, top of the hill, and they have very good scenery view from their terrace. I had stayed junior suit with lovery terrace, the room has butch tab, twin sink and double bed. One of the most remarkable event in the hotel was breakfast. The dining room located at first floor, when you go there with an elavater, you have to walk through 4 beautiful room. They are all small but really beautiful rooms with lots of fancy paintings. Also breakfast was fabulous one I have ever had. They don't have dinner service but lots of fancy restaurant at Matera, reasonable price in comparison with that of other Italian famous city like Florence, Venezia. When you want to go to Palazzo Viceconte from Alberobello like me, the traffic are terrible for Alberobello's

'interesting location and beautiful view. The rooms are spacious and the private pool-jaccuzzi was great. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The view from the terrace isbeautiful and the atmos very peaceful. We had dinner on the terrace and the food was delicious.

Beautiful new boutique hotel in lovely location built into hillside with fantastic views. No restaurant but nice terrace for drinks and light meals and breakfast. Lovely staff. Big room with comfy round bed (one of the suites but without jacuzzi or plunge pool) Valet parking good - will come and carry bags the 100m or so up the hill. Only downside was our breakfast was delayed about an hour but seemed to be fine for others . Short walking distance down to great restaurants and bars in via Buozzi and uphill to Largo del Duomo.

This resort is stunningly beautiful. As you near the hotel you will be wondering if booking it was a mistake, as all the surroundings are so modern. Matera is built into the hillside so as you approach the hotel from the top plaza, it reveals its true stunning beauty. We stayed in a Jr Suite with pool (think massive jet tub) that is carved into the rock. The bathrooms truly are spa like, and are absolutely huge, with dual showers. The rooms and property are spotless….cleanest I have seen in my travels throughout Italy. There are robes and slipper provided and the bed and pillows were extremely luxurious which provided us with amazing nights sleeps. The rooftop restaurant offers stunning views and a wide assortment of options. The meal we had was excellent. Breakfast is literally in a cave and they cater to pretty much anything you desire. The staff and service overall was top notch, and provided the level of service you would expect from a resort of this calibre. Overall this was one of the most unique hotel experiences we have ever had. The BV Quarry Resort will not disappoint!

Everything , the location with easy reach to the Sassi and to the new town as well, the infrastructure as such, the room with pool , the breakfast room and menu, the rooftop terrasse , and more importantly the staff who is extremely friendly and helpful in every matter . What a great hotel !

Location and surroundings are super. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Staff is helpful and caring. Rooms are spacious , espacially the one with pool. I definitely reccommend it.

Ste place is a real pearl, perfect to visit several tourist cities. The great discovery is this super charming town full of good restaurants that scent the walk. Super comfortable room, breakfast with sounds of birds and pool - and an extremely attentive and kind staff! Stay here without hesitation ! Thank you so much for everything !

From the minute I stepped through the front door, to my departure in a taxi the hotel ordered for me, my experience was excellent. The reception staff was pleasant, calm, and very informative! The room was clean, spacious, comfortable, and great value for money. The room was beautiful, a little bit of noise outside, but that is because you are in the center of everything - which for me, was ideal. Hotel is well-equipped with modern aspects including a speedy elevator, mini-fridge, safe, key cards, building code for after-hours, and of course, wifi. I was most impressed with the bathroom, which had a huge shower with an above spray nozzle and additional hand-held attachment that had great water pressure and temperature - something that has not been consistent in my stays throughout Italy. To top it all off, there is a beautiful terrace on the top floor where I received a complimentary welcome drink while enjoying the view. The hotel breakfast was suitable to my needs, enough to get the day started without the need to actively look for something to eat elsewhere. The options may have been limited due to the hotel size, but the staff present was super friendly and helpful.

We had a very pleasant stay here. The hotel has been newly refurbished and everything feels modern, fresh, and spotlessly clean. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, with nice touches like a kettle for tea and coffee on a pull out lighting table. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, offering great recommendations for local restaurants, local dishes and things to do in the area. They offered a welcome drink in the roof top bar which was nice. We wanted tea as we were feeling cold after watching the sunset in a windy hill at the end of October and the staff went the extra mile to get us our hot drinks to the roof top. The staff also offered information prior arrival on where to park, both private paid parking and free. We parked at the Parcheggio Via Carlo Levi which was free and 850m away, a 15 min walk. The breakfast bar was decent, and I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad which was delicious. Overall, we had a great stay with excellent service and comfort. I’d definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay again.

I really loved my stay at the Palazzo della Fontana, wish I would have booked more than one night. The location is perfect, you are right in the city center, everything important is within 5 minutes walking distance. The room was very spacious with a very tasteful Interior and high quality toiletries. The receptionist were super helpful with tipps regarding restaurants and parking. You cannot park in front of the hotel, there is only a space for 30 Minutes, but you can at least drop off the luggage at the Hotel. The parking garage is 2 minutes away and it costs 20€ per day. The breakfast was delicious and the Cappuccino marvelous. I would definitely come back and will recommend the place to friends.

Very nice hotel, great location, extremely kind, friendly, and extremely helpful service from Paolo at the front desk and the nice lady in charge of the breakfast buffet. The breakfast included various sweet items, cakes, cereals, yogurt but also bruschetta and eggs and bacon plus fruit.it's an excellent hotel and highly recommended. We parked on the adjoining street paying the fees with the app easypark. You cannot drive right up to the hotel. We found parking at a bit under 100 meters away but were lucky. We would stay there again. Restaurant recommendation Annina 1937. The front desk will make a reservation for you.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Annalisa! She explained everything, answered all of my questions, and even walked around to check in with all the guests on several occasions. She was overall a very friendly hostess! The pool area is fantastic after a day of exploring or for a full day of rest on a longer trip. They offer drink service at the pool which is a real treat! My room also had a terrace where I could lounge and have my own drinks and snacks within walking distance to the pool. Wifi was strong throughout the property, which is not always standard in such a remote location, so bonus points for that! The maids were flexible and always confirmed when the best time would be to clean the room. Very friendly ladies always greeting the guests! If you are staying in the satellite building by the pool, you can park in the lot right next to the side entrance so you are not walking on pebbles with your luggage - a nice thoughtful, gesture. Lastly, it is very accessible to the city of Matera (only 10 minutes drive) or the beaches of Metaponto (1 hour with traffic, shorter if no traffic) It goes without saying you need your own car to stay here.

Superb. Friendly and welcoming (we were a same day booking)and room was ready just few hours after we booked and well before official check in time. Lovely big room, great bathroom and big shower. Property is thoughtfully designed throughout. Good pool, lots of sun beds and regular pool drinks service. Super breakfast. We loved our stay.

This was our second stay at the Masseria Fontana di Vite and it was a marvellous experience yet again. Our cousins from NY joined us this time and they too adored it. Situated just a ten minute drive from the centre of Matera it served as a great place from which to visit our cousins in Matera and spend time in the Sassi. Of course, we had to tear ourselves away from the beautiful pool first. Everyone who worked there was so gracious and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and the lunch and dinner excellent with produce from the masseria garden. Our room was beautiful with a patio where we were able to enjoy the gorgeous sunset with the hotel cats - the scent of lavender wafting in the air. It was also a great starting point for Altamura, Polignano a Mare, Monopoli and Alberobello. Altamura with its great restaurants and lovely centro storico was just 15 minutes drive and Polignano a Mare, Monopoli & Alberobello just an hour away. Go on, treat yourself!

Wow!! It is hard to expalin, you need to be there to understand. The facility is beautiful, very large, with fabulous gardens, in a rural landscape with an endless view to the valley. All of the stuff are very kind and friendly. The room is big, clean, comfortable, the decoration of the room and all of the facility are in the highest level. The pool area is magical. The breakfast is amazing, with a wide varity of homemade products and options. At the evening you can eat at the restaurant and get a cheffs meal, at the highest level of culinary, a very creative menu and tasty for a fair price. The location is also great, just 15 minutes from Matera. We will come back for sure and highly recommend it!

A wonderful place to stay with staff that was incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was quite big and had all the modern facilities we could want, such as TV, a big bathroom with a rain shower, shower necessities, towels for the swimming pool. We had a private terrace that looked out over the fields that surround the masseria. It is located a couple kilometers outside of Matera, making it perfect for visiting the city but also enjoying a peaceful vacation. The breakfast is extensive and they offer to the option to have dinner too, which I definitely recommend trying at least once.
